Portugal is the 6th best country in the world for remote working, according to a new global ranking.

It is joined in the Top 10 by Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany at the top of the index but is ahead of other countries, including the United States, UK, Norway, Switzerland and Japan.

This is according to NordLayer's Global Remote Work Index (GRWI) that categorises 108 countries in total according to economic conditions, cybersecurity, digital and physical infrastructure and social conditions, Idealista reports.

At the top of the table is Denmark, which is considered the best country in the world for remote working, followed by the Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Sweden is in 5th place, just ahead of Portugal. Also in the Top 10 best countries for working remotely are Estonia, in 7th place, Lithuania in 8th, Ireland in 9th and Slovakia in 10th, The Portugal News reports.

Portugal is considered within the Global Remote Work Index as "a rising star in the universe of remote work," as it features a "mixture of excellent strengths and opportunities for growth."

"Known for its pleasant climate and vibrant culture, Portugal now boasts an impressive cybersecurity ranking, in 18th place. This achievement is largely due to its respectable responsiveness, which stands out in 4th position. Furthermore, cybersecurity legislation ranked 8th emphasises the country's commitment to creating a secure digital workspace, although some areas still need improvement," said NordLayer.

In addition, in terms of economic security, Portugal ranked in 8th place. However, the cybersecurity firm cautioned that future remote workers may require a sustained budget due to the "slightly high cost of living," for which the country ranks in 56th place, The Portugal News report goes on to add.
